Top Performers -- Week 11

Paul Tenorio at 2:48 p.m., November 4, 2008

Welcome back to Top Performers. While Brooks has claimed a victory for the season (cutting this blog short at the start of the postseason though we may have five teams playing with plenty of Top Performer picks available), Tenorio has continued to forge ahead undeterred and came away with a convincing 5-2 victory this week. Let's take a look at what went down...

WEEK 10 ACTUAL TOP PERFORMERS

QB: Sawyer Hackett, Park View- The junior threw for 170 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots loss to Heritage.
RB: Michael Baker, Potomac Falls- Baker rushed for 297 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries to guide Potomac Falls to a huge win over Briar Woods.
WR: Michael Prince, Stone Bridge- The senior played a big role for the Bulldogs, catching a 20-yard touchdown pass and rushing for 72 yards and another score to sneak past Josh Jones as this week's top performer.
PK: Josh Thiel, Heritage- With four extra points and a field goal, Thiel narrowly edges both Graham Allen and Asa Fox.
DEF: Loudoun County- Allowed just six points and grabbed four turnovers to lead all defenses.
O-LINE: Stone Bridge- The Bulldogs gained 415 yards on 51 carries in their win over W.T. Woodson, with four rushing touchdowns.
PLAYMAKER: T.J. Peeler, Broad Run- Peeler rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries in the Spartans big win over Freedom.

WEEK 10 PREDICTION RESULTS

Last week, Brooks declared himself the winner for the season because I can't catch him no matter what. Luckily, I am a fighter and will continue to battle throughout the rest of the year (meaning one more week) regardless of if I can win or not. I won it 5-2 this week but it's not about winners and losers here at Extra Points. It's about how you play the game. Boom.

QUARTERBACK
Brooks: Brandon Lee, Park View
Prediction: 8-for-17, 111 yards, TD; 15 carries, 78 yards, 2 TDs.
Actual: 5-for-14, 99 yards, 2 INT. 8 carries, 0 yards.
Tenorio: Tim Miscovich, Broad Run
Prediction: 10-of-7, 107 yards, 2 TDs; 4 rushes, 48 yards, TD.
Actual: 3-for-5, 86 yards, TD.
ADVANTAGE: Tenorio He only had five attempts, but he found the end zone on one of those attempts and didnt throw a pick.

RUNNING BACK
Brooks: Daniel Allen, Stone Bridge
Prediction: 27 carries, 168 yards, 4 TDs.
Actual: 17 carries, 183 yards, 2 TDs.
Tenorio: T.J. Peeler, Broad Run
Prediction: 14 carries, 230 yards, 3 TDs.
Actual: 11 carries, 210 yards, 3 TDs.
ADVANTAGE: Tenorio More yards and touchdowns on fewer attempts.

WIDE RECEIVER
Brooks: Michael Prince, Stone Bridge
Prediction: 2 catches, 47 yards, TD; 3 carries, 89 yards, 2 TDs.
Actual: 1 catch, 20 yards, TD. 7 carries, 72 yards, TD.
Tenorio: Josh Jones, Park View
Prediction: 4 catches, 68 yards, TD.
Actual: 5 catches, 108 yards, TD.
ADVANTAGE: Brooks He wins it with what he did on the ground, not in the air. Debatable maybe in the WR category, but I'll give Brooks the nod cause Prince made the plays he was asked to make.

PLACE KICKER
Brooks: Graham Allen, Broad Run
Prediction: 8-8 XPs
Actual: 6-6 XPs.
Tenorio: Josh Thiel, Heritage - Friday vs. Park View
Prediction: 3-for-3 FGs; 1-1 XPs.
Actual: 4-for-4 XPs. 1-1 FGs.
ADVANTAGE: Tenorio I debated this for a while, but six extra points would get you six fantasy points in my league, versus at least 7 with 4 XPs and a field goal, depending on the yardage. So I take it.

DEFENSE
Brooks: Broad Run
Prediction: 7 points allowed, 5 turnovers, TD, less than 125 total yards allowed.
Actual: 22 points allowed, 1 turnover, 184 yards allowed.
Tenorio: Loudoun County
Prediction: 7 points allowed, 3 turnovers.
Actual: 6 points allowed, 4 turnovers, 247 yards allowed.
ADVANTAGE: Tenorio Fewer points allowed, more turnovers. Strong performance from the Raiders defense.

OFFENSIVE LINE
Brooks: Briar Woods
Prediction: 38 carries, 186 yards, 3 TDs.
Actual: 29 carries, 106 yards, 3 TDs.
Tenorio: Broad Run
Prediction: 35 carries, 360 yards rushing, 6 rushing TDs.
Actual: 27 carries, 308 yards rushing, 4 rushing TDs.
ADVANTAGE: Tenorio Nice performance from the Spartans on the ground as they controlled the game against Freedom.

PLAYMAKER
Brooks: Ray Taliaferro
Prediction: 22 carries, 126 yards, 2 TDs.
Actual: 21 carries, 99 yards, 2 TDs. 1 catch, 1 yard.
Tenorio: Deandre Reaves
Prediction: 27 rushes, 160 yards, TD.
Actual: 22 carries, 85 yards. 1 catch, -5 yards.
ADVANTAGE: Brooks Taliaferro turned in another strong performance for the Falcons and has proved to be one of the District's top backs.
